Home Sweet Home

Returning home, for two weeks healing homesickness! Besides the obvious things I missed a lot (my family, friends, boyfriend and dogs), there were so many others that I missed a loooooot. The scents of the sea were one of the things I missed the most, and what about the fish?! Oh, that the meal of the very first day, a delicious fried “chaputa”. Yummy…!
As would be expected, the smell and warmth of a fireplace, talking Portuguese with everyone, mummy’s food, watching TV on the couch!!!, and even things I was so accustomed to that I never thought they would be that meaningful: the microwave, the dishwasher, driving the car, so many birds chirping early in the morning, running on the beach, “our” sun’s warmth, and even eating a “Pastel de nata”!!
These were great Christmas holidays, in which I valued everything I was missing. Back in Salzburg, and freezing, I can say what I don’t miss at all: the sadness that surrounds the Portuguese people. The majority of people are really downcast! This is a reality I hadn’t figured out from the little information I get from the news, and from which I am glad to have fled from. Better days will come… let’s hope!
Happy 2009 for everyone!
